Frequently asked questions
Ranking, pricing labels, accounts, data and listings. If your question is not here, the contact form reaches a person.
Using CourseForFree
Is CourseForFree actually free to use?
Yes, completely. There is no account required to search, no paywall on any listing, and no premium tier. We cover our costs through display advertising and affiliate commissions, both of which are disclosed and neither of which affects how courses rank.
Do I take the courses on CourseForFree?
No. We are a discovery layer, not a course platform. When you find something worth your time, we send you to the provider — Coursera, edX, Udemy and so on — where you enrol and learn. Your progress, certificates and payments all live with them.
What does “free” mean on a listing?
We label three distinct things rather than blurring them. Free means the full course content is available at no cost. Free trial means access is time-limited and will require payment to continue. Discounted means a paid course is currently below its usual price. The badge on every card tells you which of the three you are looking at before you click.
Do I need an account?
Not for searching or browsing. An account only exists so you can save courses, track what you have finished and tune your recommendations. Everything else works signed out.
Ranking and trust
How do you decide what ranks first?
Completion rate carries the most weight, because a five-star rating from someone who watched twelve minutes tells you very little. We combine it with review volume and recency, how current the syllabus is, and whether the enrolment link has stayed alive. Courses that people start and abandon fall, regardless of their star rating.
Can a provider pay for a better position?
No, and this is the one thing we will not trade. No provider, instructor or advertiser can buy a ranking position, a badge or a place in a collection. Advertising on this site is clearly labelled as advertising and sits outside the results.
Do you earn money when I enrol?
Sometimes. Some providers pay us a commission when a learner enrols through our link, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes ranking — plenty of our highest-ranked courses pay us nothing at all. Full detail is in our affiliate disclosure.
A course link is dead or the price is wrong. What now?
Tell us and we will fix it, usually within a day. We re-check every listing automatically on a daily cycle, but providers change things without warning and our crawler is not psychic. Use the report link on the listing or email support.
Privacy and data
What do you collect about me?
As little as we can run on. Signed out, that is anonymised page analytics. Signed in, it is your email, saved courses and preferences. We do not sell personal data, and we never have.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes, from your account settings, and the deletion is real rather than a deactivation flag. Backups age out within 30 days. You can also export everything you have saved first.
For providers and instructors
How do I get my course listed?
Submit it through our partner form. We check that it is genuinely accessible at the price stated, that the syllabus is real and that the instructor is identifiable. Listing is free.
Something about my course is wrong. How do I correct it?
Email [email protected] from an address on the provider domain and we will correct the record. We will not remove an accurate negative signal, such as a low completion rate, but we will always fix a factual error.
